Casey Basketball Association – Covid19 Update

Dear Casey Basketball Member,

In light of the recent announcements from the State Government and Basketball Victoria, Casey Basketball has postponed all competitions and programs. At this stage, the lockdown is set to last at least 6 weeks and our staff will begin preparations to re-launch basketball in late August. We will update you as information becomes available on what this return to basketball looks like.

Basketball Victoria has officially announced that the 2020 VJBL and Big V seasons have been cancelled. This will be disappointing news for many members, however, we will look to continue to build on the work done this year for the 2021 seasons.

We understand that many of you may have questions, but please be patient as more information will be released next week.

Queries for Domestic competitions: comps@caseybasketball.com.au
Queries for Cavaliers programs: cavaliers@caseybasketball.com.au

We hope you all stay safe and healthy and we look forward to having you all back on court as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
Basketball will be back!

Kind Regards,
Casey Basketball Association

Suspension Of Play

To Saints Basketball Club Members and Athletes:

Suspension of all games and training effective immediately

In light of the recent spike in Covid-19 virus numbers, and with the health and safety of our athletes and members our main priority, it is with great sadness we suspend all games and training for Saints Basketball Club.

This decision was not made lightly, and the committee greatly appreciates all the support we have received from our members over the past few months.

Saints Basketball Club will maintain constant communication with its members and athletes during this time, to ensure all updates are passed on as soon as they become available.

The health and safety of our members and players remains our primary focus.

We will continue to monitor the situation in line with guidance provided by government bodies.  If there is a change in restrictions and we can resume play, safely, for standard summer season, we will put together a program.

We thank you for your ongoing support and patience as the situation continues to unfold.

Casey Basketball Association Awards 2019

This week CBA announced the male domestic player of the year!

Congratulations to Thomas Martin for winning these awards!

Thomas is from the Saints Basketball Club (Cranbourne)!
He is a team player and has a desire to succeed. It is important to Thomas that his teammates are always alongside him for this success. His coach can see that he listens well and puts into action what he has been taught at training sessions. He is one to keep an eye on for even more great things in the future!

Well done Thomas! You are more than worthy winners of this award!

Keep an eye out tomorrow evening for our next awards winners!

Basketball Victoria Update – 01 July 2020

Return to Sport Update – July 1, 2020
The Victorian Governments announcement on Tuesday 30 June for particular suburbs (postcodes) to revert back to Stage 3 restrictions (due to COVID-19 localised ‘hotspots’) has an impact on domestic basketball in those areas.

From 11.59pm 1 July to 29 July, associations who have facilities, clubs and participants who reside in the suburbs below unfortunately will not be able to conduct basketball activity (Return to Red-0 in Basketball Victoria’s – Return to Sport Guidelines):
3012: Brooklyn, Kingville, Maidstone, Tottenham, West Footscray.3021: Alban Vale, Kealba, Kings Park, St Albans.3032: Ascot Vale, High Point City, Maribyrnong, Travancore.3038: Keilor Downs, Keilor Lodge, Taylors Lakes, Watergardens.3042: Airport West, Keilor Park, Niddrie.3046: Glenroy, Hadfield, Oak Park.3047: Broadmeadows, Dallas, Jacana.3055: Brunswick South, Brunswick West, Moonee Vale, Moreland West.3060: Fawkner.3064: Craigieburn, Donnybrook, Mickleham, Roxburgh Park and Kalkallo.
While we understand this will be a bitter blow to those affected, we ask the basketball community in these areas to observe the Victorian Government restrictions and only leave your home for work or school, care or caregiving, daily exercise and food shopping.

Hopefully with everyone’s vigilance, we will see a reduction in cases across these areas and the rest of Victoria in the coming days and weeks, and everyone will have the opportunity to return to group trainings and competitions.

In the meantime, we will continue to support the affected associations during this period and ensure they are ready to return when safe to do so.

The rest of Victoria is still at Orange-50 for Indoor Training and Competition for those 18 years and under, and Red-10 Outdoor Training for those 19 years and over. Subject to the advice of Victoria’s Chief Health Officer and the continued management of the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), adults (19 years and over) can resume full-contact training from 13 July and full-contact competition from 20 July – as per DHHS.

Summary of Current Restrictions:

FOR THOSE AFFECTED SUBURBS AS ABOVE

ALL AGES: July 2 until July 29 – Reactivation Status = RED – 0

FOR THE REMAINDER OF VICTORIA

FOR 18 YEARS OLD AND UNDER: Current Reactivation Status = ORANGE – 50Full contact training and competition for both indoor and outdoor is currently possibleFOR 19 YEARS OLD AND OVER: Current Reactivation Status = RED – 10Non-contact training for both indoor and outdoor is currently possibleFOR 19 YEARS OLD AND OVER: Mid July – Reactivation Status TBC = ORANGE 20/50Full contact training for both indoor and outdoor) from July 13 (to be confirmed by DHHS)Resumption of competition both indoor and outdoor from July 20 (to be confirmed by DHHS)VJBL

While our focus continues to be on a return to local participation, we also understand that there is ongoing interest in the VJBL. At this stage, due to the impacts of the lockdown zones we have decided that the VJBL season cannot commence from July 17. We believe that the VJBL is an important junior representative league for thousands of Victorians; hence we are currently working through a number of options for a potential competition resumption. We aim to provide more certainty about the VJBL in the coming days.

Regards,
Nick Honey

Return to basketball

It is with great excitement that we can announce the return to basketball details.  Casey Basketball competitions are set to resume mid July 2020, with a start date to be confirmed.

There will be no Winter Season for 2020, however, the newly confirmed Spring/Summer season will be extended, with competitions being played between mid July 2020 through to 1st April 2021.

Please note, there is NO need to re-register via PlayHQ, the information and dates for Winter will be adjusted by Casey Basketball Association.  In the meantime, can you please advise if you DO NOT wish to return for the Spring/Summer season.

For the health, safety and wellbeing of everyone involved at Casey Basketball stadium, athletes and spectators, there will be some Covid-19 procedures introduced.

  • Games times will be reduced to two 18 minute halves, with a 1 minute half time, and 1 timeout per team, per half.
  • Athletes and spectators will only be allowed into the stadium 10 minutes prior to their scheduled playing time.  They will have 10 minutes post game to exit the stadium.
  • All high touch areas, including but not limited to, scoring benches, players benches and game basketballs, will be sanitised between games.
  • Only CBA basketballs will be allowed on site.  Athletes and families are NOT permitted to bring their own basketballs into the stadium.
  • Regular hand sanitising before, during and after games is required by ALL athletes, and scorers.
  • There will be a limit on the number of spectators per game.  With further details yet to be confirmed, it looks like it will be one spectator per athlete, with siblings not allowed on site.
  • Spectators will be required to sign into the stadium records, for Covid-19 tracking purposes.  These details will only be kept by CBA for 21 days, and then destroyed securely.
  • The basketball community will be united in the processes, working together to stop the spread, and protect our members.

Return to training details are yet to be confirmed, as we await advice from our training properties.

As the return to basketball date is approaching, it is important that we gather our athlete’s and team’s information as soon as possible.  The club understands that the cross over from Winter members, and the newly formed Spring/Summer members may cause difficulties for our families, athlete’s and other winter commitments, we are here to assist in any way we can, please feel free to make contact with our Club Committee Members to discuss further.

With all these changes, and extension to the season, the club is reviewing the fees structure, and pending confirmation from Casey Basketball, the club will inform you as soon as we have these details.

You will all be informed as new information comes to hand.

We thank you for your continued support throughout these unique times.

The health and safety of our members and athletes remains our primary focus.
